apathy ... who cares about it?

Well, it's been a while hasn't it?  Just not had any desire to blog at all, and I really don't know why that should be ...

I have been doing hobby stuff though, and one of them has been getting involved with ArmiesArmy. To that end, I've written a background document for the SinoPact Penal Forces (15mm SF penal troopers) which can be downloaded here (if you could spare the time to download and read it, I'd appreciate feedback).

I also attended Cavalier last Sunday, allegedly "helping" on the combined ArmiesArmy / The Scene stand, where I met Clint from the Anything but a one blog. Nice guy,but he lost points as he didn't buy anything from us - at least not while I was there  ...  :)   I said allegedly helping, as I managed to arrive after they'd set up and left about 1.30, so I didn't do anything much really!!  It was a good laugh though, and I would like to do it again.

Also while there, I went to find Real Time Wargames (part of the Realistic Modelling Services stand).  I'd found their website last Friday and had been very, very intrigued by the descriptions of their rulesets. As a result, I took a chance and picked up their Marlborough and WW1 sets.

And they are what has inspired me to post now.  I read both sets cover to cover in about 3 hours on sunday evening. That shows that they were easy to read, and they both left me wanting to play them straight away.

And I intend to get more sets (ACW, AWI, Sudan & maybe Boer) this weekend after I get paid.

Who knows, maybe I'll even get some kind of game report up here ....

who am I kidding?  I'd settle for another post within 3 months ....

New Rules

Well so much for a post a day ... in my defence, the lighting in my hotel room is so awful that the pictures I've taken have been absolutely rubbish and unworthy of publishing. Anyway, going home tonight, so I hope to have posts of my buildings up soon.

Meanwhile, I thought I'd let you know about 2 of the new rulesets that I've got recently:

Five Men in Normandy - skirmish rules that I picked up during Wargame Vault's recent 'summer offensive' sale. The clue being in the title, they are designed for small skirmish actions, but there is provision for up-sizing the number of combatants. I'll reserve posting any more about them at present as I've only read them, but I will say that I have a good feeling about them and am eager to give them a try. There is also a new supplement to cover zombies!!  (I'd put a link to them, but can't connect to WV right now; as WV is back up, I've added the links)

Sabre Squadron - "is the new set of rules for company-level wargaming from the Cold War to the Digital Age" as it says on the website.  Currently being developed, the free version you get is called 'Rapid Deployment' and can be got by sending an email to them (details on the page linked to above). Again this reads very well and leave me wanting to give it a try - just need to get some russkies done!

Speaking of russkies, I've been trying very hard to not buy some of Brigade Model's lovely 15mm SF neo-Soviet tanks and ArmiesArmy 15mm infantry to oppose and support them ... I don't actually NEED another project to start, but they are very, very shiny and wonderful and the world would be a much better place if I bought them and precious says I must .....  HELP ME!!!!

Just arrived - "A World Aflame" and WarThunder

from Osprey site
Only a small update today ...  due to returning an unsatisfactory birthday present, I had a credit on my amazon account, and decided (eventually) to buy the "A World Aflame" wargame rules by Osprey Publishing.  (Note they are much cheaper from Amazon though!)

This won't be a review as I've not played them (or even read it all!) as yet, but from what I have read, I think that they would be ideal for my VBCW 15mm stuff that I'm intending to paint, and for the 20mm WW2 Norway game I want to do ...

As an example, units only have a limited amount of ammunition, but it can be resupplied in game and the rules use chance cards, both things that I like. They were written by Paul Eaglestone of Empress Miniatures with the Spanish Civil War and VBCW in mind, and I am very much looking forward to trying them out, although, unfortunately, I doubt that it will be any time soon :(

Also, some colleagues on World Of Tanks recommended "War Thunder" a free MMO WW2 airplane game. I've tried it, and thought it was damn fine, but I can't get on with flight simulators, so have given up on it :(  If flight sims are your thing though, you should give it a try!
